Fisherman Tradition in Pemalang at the beginning of Ramadan. Pemalang is one of the areas located in the province of Central Java, with an area of about 1,118.03 km2. The area which is known for its typical food from Grombyang is also an area that has lowlands with coastal areas in the waters of WPP RI 712.
The majority of people in Pemalang welcome the coming of this blessed holy month with enthusiasm not inferior to the crab fishermen. Based on a report from the field by one of APRI’s enumerators, Nur Arofah said that “at the beginning of every month of Ramadan fishermen will have a day off from fishing”. These fishermen took the time to together enjoy the beginning of the fall of the fasting month on April 3, 2022.
The arrival of the fasting month by not going to sea is used by fishermen by worshiping, selling food for iftar called takjil, gathering with family, and so on. “The crab fishermen here in Pemalang will have a holiday every year if it’s the start of fasting,” said the APRI enumerator. This activity or tradition has other benefits as expected by fishermen, namely that later the crabs will be abundant when approaching Eid. (Nur Arofah-Pemalang)
