This area is a village where the majority of the people work as fishermen, fishermen in this village are divided into several groups according to the fishing gear and catches obtained, the catches of fishermen in Kuala Penet include fish, shrimp and crabs. Crayfish is one of the marine product commodities that are caught by fishermen in Kuala Penet.
Crab is one of the catches of fishermen that has a fairly high selling value, it is not surprising that many people depend on their lives to become crab fishermen using the net fishing method. In July 2021, the condition and catch of crabs are decreasing. Changes in seasons and erratic weather are one of the main causes of declining catches. Small crab fishermen in the village of Margasari Kuala Penet are currently fishing with less than 5 kg of catch per day. Bad weather conditions at sea also make the fishing gear used to be dirty and damaged.
In July 2021, the price of crabs is quite high, which is Rp. 95,000/kg. The high price of crabs makes some fishermen continue to go to sea even though the catch is quite low and uncertain. Fishermen in the village of Margasari Mostly catch crabs in the waters from the edge to the middle with a distance of 4-12 miles. Crab fishermen who do not go to sea choose to clean and repair dirty and damaged fishing gear. With the decline in the catch of crabs, some fishermen also switch to fishing and work odd jobs.
