by adminapri December 15, 2021 0 commentsIn an effort to increase crab catches to be more selective, APRI enumerators discussed with fishermen regarding environmentally friendly fishing gear. APRI enumerators discussed with fishermen at Pamekasan Temple regarding the size of the gill nets in catching crabs.
This discussion activity received a fairly good response by crab fishermen with gill net fishing gear. Sarkawi, a part of the group of fishermen with nets, said that under certain conditions they have used gill nets with a mesh size of about 3.5 to 4 inches.
In Pamekasan area is one of the largest crab-producing areas, many fishermen use box trap fishing gear, but some also use gill nets. Farhan Ramadhan as the APRI enumerator is carrying out a task in recording fishermen with gill net fishing gear which will later become a research program and experiment on the use of gill nets with a larger mesh size of around 4-4.5 inches. later, with the help of gill net fishing gear with a larger mesh size, it will be possible to know how CPUE and the catch is, whether this mesh size can increase the selectivity of crab catching and reduce by catch.
