Quick and accurate handling of the crab production process is a crucial factor that must be considered, as it affects the quality of crab meat. The freshness and condition of the crabs determine their market value—the fresher and better the condition, the higher the selling price. Likewise, the freshness of the crabs depends on how they are handled, whether by fishermen or upon arrival at the crab meat peeling facility, commonly known as a miniplant. The quality of crab meat plays an important role, as it must meet the quality standards set by the company.

Pahad Maulana as APR’s field support and conducting data collection in the Gresik area explained that the role of women is very important in stripping crab meat. they come from residents around the miniplant with various backgrounds to work as pickers. seeing the enthusiasm of these women is encouraging.

The Mengare Miniplant, owned by Mrs. Hj. Solihah and located on Mengare Island, Bungah Subdistrict, Gresik Regency, consistently maintains the quality of crab meat, from the arrival of the fishermen to the boiling and peeling process. According to Agus, an employee responsible for boiling the crabs, the freshness and condition of crabs received from fishermen are very important as they directly impact the meat quality. There is also a set duration for the boiling process. Hopefully, increased awareness of maintaining crab quality will ensure sustainable practices, such as ensuring crabs caught by fishermen are over 10 cm, thereby preserving crab populations and maintaining the quality of the crab meat produced.

In one activity, we were able to meet the women behind the crab process in Gresik who were so cheerful in their pink uniforms. Behind crabs that have quite a lot of shells, there is the role of great women in making crab meat easy for us to enjoy.
