The importance of data collection for sustainable fisheries management is very important. APRI will continue to be committed to collecting data on crab fisheries through APRI enumerators spread across most of Indonesia.
Dr. Hawis Madduppa advised that “This data collection will continue and be improved as long as the crab commodity is still available”. APRI since 2015 has conducted data collection through enumerators and regularly holds enumerator training every year to improve skills and add insight to each enumerator.
Data collection in the crab fishery sector is very important considering that the crab commodity is still not widely seen even though the crab commodity occupies the third position of the leading fishery commodity after shrimp, tuna, and skipjack. According to Dr. Hawis Madduppa as Executive Director of APRI, APRI’s six focuses include the Traceability System and Stock Assessment. Currently, APRI is directed to the science-based industry.
