APRI was also present at the activity as a team for preparing an action plan for sustainable fisheries management through West Java Governor Decree number 523.05/Kep.751-Rek/2020.
The blue swimming crab has a strategic role in the Indonesian economy. Not only in the form of foreign exchange, but also employment. Director General of Strengthening the Competitiveness of Marine and Fishery Products (PDSPKP), Artati Widiarti said crab-crab is one of Indonesia’s main fishery export commodities and is one of the focus commodities to be developed in the KKP breakthrough program in order to increase aquaculture-based exports.
Mrs. Artati Widiarti said the demand for world crabs reached US$ 5.4 billion (Rp 77 trillion) last year. However, Indonesia’s exports of this commodity only reached 6.8% or US$ 367.5 million (Rp 5.2 trillion). In the January to October 2021 period, the export value of Indonesian fishery products reached US$ 4.56 billion (Rp 65 trillion) or an increase of 6.6% compared to the same period in 2020. The main export commodities include Shrimp (40%), Tuna-Cakalang -Cob (13%), Crab-Blue Swimming Crab (11%), Squid-Cut-Octopus (10%), and Seaweed (6%).
