Friday, October 29. APRI participated in the Socialization Activity related to the Draft Decree of the Governor of East Java which was held online and offline at Brawijaya University Malang. This activity discussed the draft of the East Java Governor’s Decree on the Committee for Management of BSC Fisheries, as part of the Fishery Management Plan at WPPNRI 712 ( KEPMEN-KP No. 79/2016), it is necessary to have a BSC fishery management team in East Java which is stipulated through a Decree of the Governor of the Regional Head of East Java Province.

On this occasion as a team of the BSC management committee in East Java, APRI had the opportunity to explain the role of industry in the management of crab fisheries in East Java through APRI’s Executive Director, Dr. Hawis Madduppa. Crab is Indonesia’s leading export commodity which continues to be included in the top 5 fishery commodities with the highest export value in Indonesia. Based on the export province, East Java is one of the provinces with the highest exports for this crab commodity. The potential of the crabs needs to be managed properly so that sustainability can be created both from the aspect of resources and business. The management of crabs in Indonesia needs to involve various parties in order to create better management.

APRI also explained about the programs that have been carried out by APRI related to fisheries management in East Java and developments related to the coordination of the preparation of the East Java Governor’s Decree until the issuance of the Decree of the Head of the Provincial Marine Fisheries Service. East Java has been published and signed (SK :188.4/864/120.3/2021)
The main objective of capture fisheries management is to ensure the sustainability of fish resources (Article 3, point (i) of Law No. 31 of 2004 concerning Fisheries). The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) is one of the (international) certification programs to measure the sustainability of exploited fish resource stocks. With the existence of a legal umbrella related to the crab fishery management committee, the main objectives of capture fisheries and international ecolabel certification such as MSC can be achieved.
