“Angin Kumbang” causes Cirebon fishermen refused to catch blue swimming crab
by adminapri October 11, 2021 0 comments“Wind Beetle” or “Angin Kumbang” that’s what Cirebon people call the south wind that starts blowing hard in July. In addition to the health impact on the people of Cirebon, the beetle wind also causes many fishermen in Bondet, Grogol village, Cirebon district to be reluctant to sail for crabs and fish. This is because the magnitude of the wind can increase the risk of accidents in the middle of the sea so that it threatens the safety of fishermen.
Very strong south wind conditions, also reduce the catch of crabs. Usually each fisherman brings 3-4 kg of crab, now the catch is only around 1-2 kg which is brought by each fisherman. This is due to the wind beetle which makes the fishing process more difficult due to very high waves and strong winds so that the nets spread can be carried away by the wind.
To meet the needs of fishermen’s lives in difficult times due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and exacerbated by the emergence of beetle winds, fishermen prefer to look for crabs on the seafront even though the quality of their catch is declining. Some fishermen also decided to go to sea to sea areas in Jakarta which were not affected by the beetle wind, and some chose not to go to sea to repair the boat. (Habibi/2021)
