DISTRIBUTION OF RAJUNGAN SEEDS ON BLUE SWIMMING CRABS CULTIVATION PILOT PONDS GEDONGMULYO VILLAGE
by adminapri September 15, 2021 0 commentsRembang has a diversity of coastal ecosystems that hold a lot of potential, especially the potential of fisheries and marine resources. The coastal area that stretches along the coast of approximately 60 km makes Rembang a potential fishery resource that can be developed (Romadhani et al. 2016). One of the fishery potentials that become the flagship of Rembang is the crab fishery. However, the increase in crab production which increases every year causes the crab yields obtained to decrease. This is due to the intensive fishing activities in the waters of Rembang (Wibowo et al. 2019).
In order to support the policy of the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Regulation No. 17 of 2021, that the crabs that can be caught have a size of more than 10 cm and cannot be laying eggs. Therefore, the fishermen of Gedongmulyo built a small crab apartment to raise and accommodate small crabs that are not yet a minimum size and are laying eggs until they can be caught and traded. In addition, eggs that have been released while the crab is being quarantined can be a natural restocking.
According to Ruliaty (2017), fishing activities that continue to increase have caused the crab population in nature to be felt to be depleting. So to reduce the exploitation of crabs caused by catching, fishermen need to be directed to aquaculture in ponds. For this reason, KUB Samudra Jaya Empat and KUB Samudra Jaya Lima intend to cultivate crabs in ponds.
The purpose of this activity is to reduce the exploitation of crabs through fishing effort and as a diversification of fishing business. Activities that have been carried out on July 22, 2021 in Gedongmulyo Village, Lasem, Rembang
stocking of crab seeds as the beginning of crab cultivation activities in ponds. The crab cultivation is carried out by KUB Samudra Jaya Empat and KUB Samudra Jaya Lima with the support of 98,000 crab seeds from BBPBAP Jepara. The crab seeds are sown in 5 ponds which will be managed by two groups of fishermen. The crab seed dispersal activity was attended by APRI, Fisheries Extension Officer, Village Government, and Fishermen’s Group.
The activity begins with acclimatization which aims to prevent environmental shock in crabs. This is due to differences in pH, temperature and water quality from the previous to the new place. After acclimatization for 5-15 minutes, the crab seeds were released from the plastic bag. (Dcky/2021)
