Application of “Crab Pot” to accommodate the Blue Swimming Crabs (BSC) that are caught laying eggs
by adminapri May 5, 2021 0 commentsMr. Zarochman (BBPI Semarang fishing gear expert) and Dr. Hawis Madduppa (APRI) together with the Jepara crab fishermen group have applied a ‘crab pot’ to accommodate the crabs that are caught laying eggs. This activity is expected to be able to help fishermen to be able to sell the crabs after the crabs release their eggs in the crab pot. The application of “Crab Pot” is a form of support related to government efforts to support the conservation of small crab fisheries with regulations on the prohibition of catching laying crabs.
This activity, which has been implemented since 2016, will continue to be supported by APRI in preserving the crab stock. This bamboo-based “Crab Pot” is expected to solve the problems related to catching laying crabs. The concept of accommodating laying crabs can make fishermen not lose and be able to participate in maintaining the availability of the crab stock itself.
The condition of the crab that continues to be exploited will make the availability of the crab stock thinner so that improvements in fisheries management are needed. “Crab Pot” is an alternative and is expected to trigger awareness of small crab fishermen to comply with the government’s fishing rules.
