Asia Pacific FIP Community of Practice Workshop, Bali, October 15-17, 2019

APRI FIP covers various aspects, including the traceability system, stock assessment and enhancement, co-management, modified trap, enforcement and compliance, and empowerment. Fisheries Improvement Program itself is a series of programs carried out to improve fisheries conditions and create a sustainable fisheries. Various organization, institutions, even business actors across the world, many have done the FIP, icluding the country in the area of Asia Pacific.
On the October 15-17, 2019, held a Asia Pacific FIP workshop which emphasizes on community on pracice. In this opportunity, Indonesia especially Bali being the host for the workshop. The workshop took place in Courtyard by Marriott Seminyak with the participants were FIP activists from various country in Asia Pacific. APRI as one of FIP activist in Indonesia with specifically focusing on blue swimming crab fisheries FIP also participated.
There were several session in this event such as the Exploring Incentives for Implementing FIPs; Reporting Progress; Certification & Ratings Panel; Evolution of the FIP Model; FIPs in Small-scale & Artisanal Fisheries; Failure Festival-Learning from Failure!; FIPs & Government Engagement; FIP Carousel; Open Space (Accelerating Impacts and Collaboration); and FIP CoP Planning. In this event, an honor for APRI that the our Director Executive Dr. Hawis Madduppa being the presenter in this event. Dr. Hawis Madduppa presented the material in Session 5 that is FIPs in Small-scale & Artisanal Fisheries with the topic “From National to Local: Sustainability of the Blue Swimming Crab Fishery across Indonesia through FIP and Catch Documentation”.
Many things were obtained from this event. The experience that shared by another FIP activist very helpful for developing the FIP. What we obtained from this workshop, surely will serve a learning to develop the blue swimming crab FIP for the better.
