APRI YOUTH INNOVATION…! “Innovation for the Sustainability of Indonesian BSC Fishery”
by adminapri December 13, 2017 0 commentsOpportunities for students throughout Indonesia to participate as part of sustainable management of sustainable crab fisheries. APRI has been conducting a Fishery Improvement Project (FIP) since 2009. This has become an important agenda since fisheries management in developing countries (and especially for small scale fisheries) is generally faced with many obstacles, including the lack of data that sufficiently accurate with respect to the location of effective catches to crabs, lack of information on spawning sites for small crabs, and lack of information on the impact of fishing gears on the surrounding environment. BSC fisheries in other Asian countries are also facing the same problem.
Furthermore, sustainable management of sustainable crab fisheries requires extensive research support and production of knowledge as an input to appropriate management measures for these fisheries. In this context, APRI targets educational institutions, especially students to participate in supporting this activity. For that APRI will organize activities with the name APRI Youth Innovation with the theme “Innovation for Sustainability Indonesian BSC Fishery”. This activity aims to gather information and analyze biological, social and economic data from crab aquaculture business world. In addition, through this activity can also be identified steps to minimize the socio-economic impact, especially for small-scale fishermen and help improve the compliance of small crab fishermen to the applicable regulations.
