This event was held on November 13-14th , 2017 in Monterey, California USA. This invitation hosted by Seafood Watch to participate on a steering group for Seafood Watch called the Multi-Stakeholder Group (MSG), with a commitment to serve on the MSG run for a two year term.
The Seafood Watch Standards undergo regular review to ensure the latest science and best management practices are taken into account when conducting Seafood Watch assessments. The purpose of this meeting is to continue this review, as well as gather input from stakeholders in an effort to guide processes and strategies. Several important issues are discussed here such as the study of biodiversity and minimizing the impact of fisheries on the structure, genetic integrity and function of biota associations where fisheries take placeThe MSG is the final decision-making body, with the main goal being approval of the final standards for publication. Members of the MSG must abide by and make decisions that adhere to the Seafood Watch Guiding Principles for Fisheries and Aquaculture.
